Pooping is a very important way that we get waste out of the body. We tend to think of this function mostly in relationship to getting the parts of food that we eat out as waste.
But pooping also plays a very important role in hormone detoxification. Specifically, when the microbes in the gut are imbalances, they can create something called β-glucoronidase that can knock estrogen and estrogen-like compounds off of their protein taxi cab out of the body and back into circulation.
We can see this on a stool test such as the GI MAP. But we don’t need to run the test in order to understand that by improving our central microbiome, we’re improving our ability to take out the trash daily, which includes our hormones and environmental estrogens.
