1. Selection Criteria
There are many factors that make our members different than the status quo.
Here are the top 7 specific attributes we select for in our Applicants:
- Demonstration of curiosity by exploring the Lab Notes in depth.
- Demonstration of serious intention by implementing new Insights and testing the result.
- Demonstration of manners, respect, politeness, humor and caring within the SHL Group as a guest.
- Demonstration of consistently sharing wins with Mel and the other members within the SHL Group.
- Demonstration of sharing the Slinky link with people who can gain value from our work and are operating at a level to take responsibility for their transformation, contributing to the overall growth of the community within days of arriving into the group so long as they are experiencing huge value.
- Awareness and avoidance of (and demonstrated willingness to outgrow) self sabotage behaviors such as Sunken Cost Fallacy, Mental Masturbation, Shiny Object Syndrome, Externalizing Blame, Indecisiveness, Procrastination, Certainty Addiction, etc. Anyone determined to cling to these types of behaviors need not apply.
- Submitting an honest, detailed and high quality application after viewing the complimentary SYNTHESIS HEALTH DEMO. Details about our Demo will be available in our group when the doors next open.
Most importantly successful applicants demonstrate self-awareness, decisiveness, and openness to growth.
More on the culture here in the group
This program is a combination of teachings from a number of mentors combined with over a decade of clinical experience. Thousands of people have gone through versions of this program.
This particular Synthesis, with video recordings, group support and dynamic training and content in this online format has been growing since early 2022.
In terms of this group not being for everyone, within a few years of starting practice, I began getting pickier about who I would treat. It wasn't based so much on clinical presentation as it was on personality and attitude.
By being selective, I found that the patients and clients I did see got exceptional results and by applying tighter filters at the beginning, I was busier. Clinical skills and approach are important, of course, but assessing someone's readiness to get better may be at least as important.
In the Synthesis Health Lab, there are a few gates.
First, the people who apply to be a guest resonate with the message of the approach.
When you fill out your application, I'm looking through multiple filters as to whether you'll do well here. Some people don't take the time properly answer the questions, for example. In which case, I know they won't be successful in a program as rigorous as this.
Then, I have a chance to see how people behave in the group. Do you check in and introduce yourself in a timely fashion as politely requested? Which is to say, can you follow simple, clear directions and respect the culture of a place you wish to be?
Are you curious or do you have all the answers?
Do you share wins and ask questions in the group? Or do you complain or tell a long story about something random that happened last week . . .
Are you looking for ways to change or are you looking to blame outside factors and are hoping that this will be the latest in a long list of approaches that have failed for you.
This particular pattern usually happens when people are meeting the very natural human need of feeling special through having an extra complicated health challenge that "no one can figure out" rather than in healthier ways. These folks won't actually follow the program because they risk losing too much by getting better.
But also, there's an opportunity for folks to begin to outgrow these dysfunctional patterns by spending time here so that even if this is what they have been doing, by shining a light on it they can decide to let it go and so become a good fit for the program by being a Guest here and showing up fully.
In this way many people who may not be a perfect fit at the beginning, become good fits while they are a guest.
Are you excited to be learning new frameworks and getting insights into how your own programming keeps you from getting better? Or are you super offended by the mere suggestion that part of the reason you're still struggling are choices that you keep making.
This is why we spend a lot of attention discussing Secondary Gains and Self Sabotage that you can access before you apply and we have a culture here where we can openly discuss this in a supportive and even playful way.
Because while with perhaps 20% of people, simply getting them to do the right things at the right time results in healing and resolution, for 80% of you at some point your psychology kicks in to keep you where you are. The ego hates changes and often chooses the current shitty situation over the better future one.
So we have systems in place to address this before you even apply. And more systems in place to support you in the long term on your journey.
Some people will choose to stay where they are. Because of the systems I have in place, I can usually pick this up before allowing them to join the program.
There are many, many filters here. And also systems in place to help you level up and grow so that by the time you apply for the program, you're ready for the transformation ahead.
2. THE MEMBERSHIP LEVELS
We have 3 membership levels at the Synthesis Health Lab
- SHL GUEST (Complimentary)
- SHL MEMBER (Paid)
- SHL SUMMIT (Paid)
SHL GUEST (Complimentary)
This is our complimentary (and temporary) membership. You are currently enrolled in the SHL as a complimentary guest which is by application. More specifically you were hand selected by Mel and personally invited, one of our current members invited you directly, or you resonated with our approach and your application demonstrated excellent fit.
Invited Guests have made the first important step in their evolution by separating from the mundane world and dipping their toes into our community here.
As a Guest, you can get coaching from Mel and access the growing library of Lab Notes. We expect that within a few weeks, you’ll have had ample time here to decide if you’re ready to commit to a long-term process to getting you feeling better so you may be removed from the Group if you have not applied for a demo by then.
